PRIMARY SOURCE ARTIFACTS
1.Whiting's Web Site - Online resources and presence is vitally important in our global society. Having information for teachers, parents, students, and community members is extremely important in communicating school goals and achievements. Recently, our district attacked the issue of an ever changing district calendar of events by utilizing Googledocs. Parents have "up-to-minute" information.
2. Bullying and Harassment - Parents are continually notified and trained in the role school climate has in student achievement. Currently, the district works with local and state law enforcement agencies as well as our NWAEA to train students in preventing and reacting to bullying and harassment.
3. Community School Approach - In the district, we utilize the "Community School" theme. Teachers are continually challenged to give back to the community and provide services and advocacy for their needs. Strong relationships exist between local business for our School to Work programs as well as our senior living facilities.
4. Public Input equals Community Support - Recently, our district renovated its varsity gym. This included an emotional removal of a Chief Indian face and headdress from the center court. To ease the transition, we developed a "contest" to design the floor. We sought input from all stakeholders with community adn alumni input leading the way. Community members were kept up to date with online postings and stories. The winning design was approved unanimously by the BOE and had a 95% approval by students, staff, community, and alumni.
